Hexagram 35

Jìn - Progress

Meaning and Overview

The hexagram Jin (Progress) is composed of Li (Fire, the sun) above and Kun (Earth) below, symbolizing the sun rising over the earth, illuminating all—the meaning of 'brightness emerging above the earth.' Jin signifies advancement or promotion, and this hexagram is auspicious. The hexagram statement says: 'The noble lord is granted many horses by the king, and in a single day he is received three times.' This shows the noble lord enjoys the king's high trust and favor, making him a political star. The hexagram statement is excellent, and all six line statements are favorable; four lines are auspicious, and the first line indicates steady progress.
