Hexagram 40
Deliverance - Jie
解
Meaning and Overview
The upper trigram of the Jie hexagram is Zhen, representing thunder; the lower trigram is Kan, representing water. The Image says: 'Thunder and rain arise; this is Deliverance.' The hexagram statement of Jie shares with that of Jian (Obstruction) the phrase 'Favorable in the southwest,' indicating that Jie also benefits from the direction of the Kun hexagram in the southwest, because going to the southwest 'brings the multitude,' gaining popular support, which is auspicious.
