亨,小狐汽济,濡其尾,无攸利。

亨通,小狐狸几乎要渡过河了,却弄湿了尾巴,不会有什么好处。

Success. The little fox, almost across, wets its tail. There is nothing that would be favorable.

初六,濡其尾,吝。

初六爻,小狐狸弄湿了尾巴,十分遗憾。

Line 2

九二,曳其轮,贞吉。

九二爻,向后拖拉车轮,不急躁冒进,坚守正道,将获得吉祥。

The second nine, undivided: drags back its wheel. Perseverance brings good fortune.

The second nine line: pulling back the wheel, not rushing forward. Persevering in the correct path brings good fortune.

六三,未济,征凶,利涉大川。

六三爻,没有过河,急于征伐,十分凶险,利于渡过大河。

The third six, divided: not yet across. To advance brings misfortune. It is favorable to cross the great river.

The third six line: not having crossed the river, to act rashly in attack is very dangerous. It is favorable to cross the great river.

Line 4

九四,贞吉,悔亡。震用伐鬼方,三年有赏于大国。

九四爻,坚守中正之道,悔恨会消失,适宜用雷霆万钧之势征伐鬼方蛮夷,经过三年的战争之后,取得胜利,功臣被君王赏封为大国诸侯。

The fourth nine, undivided: perseverance brings good fortune. Regret disappears. Shock, used to punish the demon region, after three years there is reward from the great kingdom.

The fourth nine line: persevering in the correct path, regret disappears. It is fitting to use a thunderous force to punish the barbarians of the demon region. After three years of war, victory is achieved, and the meritorious minister is rewarded by the ruler with a great fief.

Line 5

六五,贞吉,无悔;君子之光,有孚吉。

六五爻,坚守中正之道,不会有悔恨。君子的光辉、德泽施及百姓,有诚信感动人,将会获得吉祥。

The fifth six, divided: perseverance brings good fortune. No regret. The light of the superior man. Possessing sincerity brings good fortune.

The fifth six line: persevering in the correct path, there will be no regret. The radiance and virtue of the superior man extend to the people. With sincerity that moves others, good fortune will come.

Line 6

上九,有孚于饮酒,无咎。濡其首,有孚失是。

上九爻,在宴会饮酒中,有诚信能感动人,不会有过错。如果在饮酒当中,失礼失德,酒醉后弄湿了头部,将因此而失去诚信,不能取信于人。

The topmost nine, undivided: possessing sincerity in drinking wine. No blame. But if he wets his head, he loses his sincerity, and it is lost.
